Are you moisturizing your extensions properly?

When you're an extension girly, it’s easy to focus all your attention on keeping them looking fresh, shiny, and smooth. But if you're not careful, you might overlook one crucial step: moisturizing. And I’m not just talking about moisturizing your extension hair but also your natural hair.

Why Moisture Matters for Natural Hair

Your natural hair is your foundation, and just because it’s tucked away under your extensions doesn’t mean it doesn’t need love. In fact, it needs extra TLC. Here’s why:

  1. Prevents Breakage: Natural hair, especially when covered by extensions, can easily become dry and brittle. Without proper moisture, your hair can start to break off, leading to thinning and damage that you might not notice until it’s too late.

  2. Maintains Elasticity: Moisturized hair is more elastic, which means it can stretch without snapping. This elasticity is crucial for maintaining the health of your natural hair, especially when you’re transitioning between different styles.

  3. Scalp Health: A dry scalp can lead to itching, flaking, and even infections. Keeping your scalp hydrated helps maintain a healthy environment for your hair to grow. We love the Surface Awaken Mask to care for the scalp!

Why Moisture Matters for Your Extensions

Your extensions may not be growing from your scalp, but they still need moisture to stay in top shape. Here’s why:

  1. Prevents Tangling: Dry extensions are more prone to tangling and matting, which can lead to unnecessary pulling and stress on both your extensions and natural hair.

  2. Keeps Them Looking Natural: Well-moisturized extensions blend seamlessly with your natural hair. They’ll look shinier, softer, and more like your own hair, which is exactly what you want.

  3. Longevity: Extensions are an investment, and proper care can extend their lifespan. Moisturizing helps prevent dryness, which can cause the extensions to become brittle and shed prematurely.

Tips for Moisturizing Both

  1. Use a Leave-In Conditioner: A leave-in conditioner is your best friend. Apply it regularly to both your natural hair and extensions to keep them hydrated throughout the day. We love Davines MoMo Potion, use a pea size on damp or dry hair (our fave trick for day 5 hair when it starts to get tangly)!

  2. Seal in Moisture: After applying a leave-in, seal it in with our favorite, Davines Oi Oil. This helps lock in the moisture, especially for your natural hair.

  3. Don't forget to oil between your rows: The hair under each of your rows is just as important, so don't foreget to oil them both morning and night!

  4. Deep Condition Regularly: Incorporate a deep conditioning mask into your routine weekly, to give your hair and extensions an extra moisture boost. Our favorite is Davines Love Instant Smoothing Mask.

Whether you’re wearing extensions for a few weeks or a few months, moisturizing is non-negotiable. It’s the secret to keeping both your natural hair and extensions healthy, vibrant, and beautiful. So next time you’re doing your hair care routine, make sure moisture is at the top of your list!
